Folks
in the 75-plus age range are finding nationwide that their numbers
are outstripping housing inventory suitable for Seniors. The
national Senior population grew by 8.8 percent from 1998 through
2000 while new Senior housing units grew by approximately 8.0
percent. The arrival of baby boomers in this market significantly
increases the competition in all segments of this market.
Most
Seniors dream of staying in their homes as they age, according
to an AARP study, no matter their growing physical limitations
or critical needs. For this reason many who are witnessing recent
'bear market' decreases in their financial resources are opting
to tap the equity in their homes through reverse mortgages,
which offer necessary income to help pay their bills. Not all
folks are willing to continue to deal with home maintenance,
however. Then there is the dread of enduring the stresses of
severing emotional ties to their homes and the disruption it
brings. The mental process of 'moving' is often found to be
more exhausting than moving itself. I offer guidance and assistance
in dealing with difficult housing choices.
Greater
Burlington's housing resources for Senior single level living
are growing glacially in the "affordable segment" of the market.
For this reason I have made a study of local options: the general
availability of single level ranch-style homes, and condominiums
with at least one ground level bedroom and bath. In terms of
availability, condos are the most popular "affordable" option
for senior independent living. I will patiently guide you to
identify the best choices, and I have the experience to segue
a possible sale with a purchase. I will help you to answer the
question: How do I manage "the move"?
I myself
am a young senior at 58. I understand my own mother's needs,
and appreciate that stairs will not forever remain a viable
option available to you. If you are a Senior, or need help in
assisting a Senior parent, please call or contact me for informed,
no-pressure consultation, in your home or in Hickock & Boardman's
Shelburne Road offices. You'll be glad you did.
I have
put together a compendium of Resources
for the Senior Community. Browse them to become better
informed of the many resources you may tap, and experience first
hand my penchant for getting at the "facts".
I am
usually available at 846-9508. If not, leave me a message, or
email me at mgannett@aol.com.
I will respond as quickly as possible.
