Burlington Vermont Homes - When I was put in touch with Mike Gannett, his previous Webmaster had recently changed careers and Mike was in need of a new partner in his web endeavors. Mike turned out to be an outstanding client. He had done a very thorough job of researching his ideas ahead of time and was therefore incredibly well prepared. After a couple of initial meetings to discuss what he was seeking Mike requested a site rehab. Although he had completely enjoyed the relationship that he had had with his previous Webmaster, and was happy with the results that he had achieved, Mike felt it was time to embrace a new approach to the underlying structure for his site. He didn’t wish to change the overall design of the site much; he was more interested in streamlining it and making it architecturally more flexible. Mike felt that this would lay the groundwork for further SEO enhancements on his site (I told you this guy had done his homework!)
It was decided that the best route would be an updated version of his existing site using CSS based layouts, affording him the ability to separate out the design elements of the site from the internal structure and content. This had the added benefit of dramatically decreasing individual page sizes as well as load times for them. Along the way I introduced some minor design detail changes and enhancements. As I was essentially re-writing the site this also gave Mike the opportunity to revisit some of the elements in his site.
Having this opportunity provided me with invaluable insights into developing CSS based code. I was also able to benefit greatly from Mike’s acquired expertise in SEO work and the world of online Real Estate marketing. All of this while working with what must be the nicest Real Estate professional I have ever encountered, bar none.
Town Profiles - One of the things that I had quite bit of fun with was recreating his town profile page. This required me to redesign the imagemap that was being used. I felt that, since Mike was changing the overall look and feel of the site to be cleaner, crisper and more professional, it was time for a sharper more dynamic looking element here. This is what resulted.
Old Site - This was the original site that I had to work with. It was originally coded using .ASP for the dynamic listing functionality and, due to a lengthy period of disuse, had to be partially disabled. Although Mike had enjoyed a very positive relationship with his previous developer and had been quite happy with the original site at the time he felt it was time for a newer, fresher and updated site.
